What is Instantized Potato Maltodextrin?


Insta* Potato® Maltodextrin is an instantized low-water form of clean-label potato maltodextrin designed for use as a filler or standardizing media in powder beverages containing moisture sensitive active ingredients such as probiotics.  The rapid dispersion and low flavor impact make this a favored ingredient for beverage applications.


Insta*Potato® maltodextrin is a clean label ingredient commonly used as an excipient or thickening agent in a variety of applications. As a thickener, it’s commonly used in such applications as:

  • soups
  • sauces
  • gravies
  • salad dressings

With high-intensity sweeteners, it’s commonly used as a clean label carrier. With highly sensitivity active ingredients, especially those to water activity such as probiotics, it’s utilized as a highly flowable clean label excipient/diluent. Its properties make it ideal for tablets and capsules.

May be used as a clean label excipient in sports nutrition or dietary supplement products or as a carrier for high-intensity sweeteners. Due to low flavor, high flowability and low water activity it’s perfectly suited for applications with moisture sensitive actives used in powder beverages as well as tablets and capsules.

In food applications, Insta*Potato® provides a creamy, soluble, easily digestible potato maltodextrin. This product may be used as a base for soups, sauces, gravies, non-dairy beverages, and other similar products for rapid dispersion and increased viscosity.

Insta*Potato® Maltodextrin LWA (Low Water Activity) is used specifically with probiotics or other sensitive actives. The water activity is driven down to an optimized level suited for these types of formulations.

Insta* Potato® Maltodextrin is a optimized and rapidly dispersible version of maltodextrin. Through IFPs agglomeration process,  particles are glued together with bridges allowing moisture to flow in and wet the particle from within increasing its dispersability. Agglomeration also creates better flow properties, or the ease of which a powder flows through processing equipment like capsule and tablet machines.

Maltodextrin is a highly functional ingredient which can be produced from a variety of raw materials. Insta* Potato® Maltodextrin is an agglomerated version produced from Potato which is commonly considered label friendly.
